Our organization came from an idea that was developed by our founder after realizing how the general public never had access to the mountains of scientific data that were published each year in scientific journals. This mission was born from a variety of discussions over several years with scientists at the annual American Geophysical Union events in San Francisco, California. Initially it was just an idea but late in 2008 it developed into a plan to create a non-profit organization to address this important issue.
Creating the non-profit organization took considerable time and effort on the part of our founder. However, driven by the need for this information to be utilized, and not locked in un-read scientific journals, the work continued. Over many months, and without any support, the non-profit finally gained the IRS status as an official 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization to benefit the general public. This took nearly a full year and the status was granted effective May 10, 2010. We report only factual scientific results and do not provide any opinion-based propaganda to benefit any corporations or influence government officials.
We currently have two major focus areas, one that supports scientific data gathering expeditions and one that uses that data to mitigate the climate issues we all face. They are The Dark Snow Project and The Greenland Trees project. In the past years, Earth Insight Foundation was solely focused on funding earth science research expeditions http://www.darksnowproject.org from the general public and providing the results to the general public. However, in an effort to apply this research, we have been working to plant trees over the past several years to assist with drawing down the carbon that is currently in our atmosphere. This year we have officially enhanced that effort through our partnership with Greenland Trees http://www.greenlandtrees.org to allow the general public to join us in carbon mitigation projects.
You may donate to either project by specifying which one you would like to support. If you are unsure you may just make a general donation to our organization and we will use the funds where they are most needed. You will find the donate buttons on our Support Our Mission page.
We are an IRS approved 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization.
